The following quote, feeling compelled to create and my Mom's enthusiasm. "Create your own fashions, and make your clothing to please yourselves independent of outside influences. Establish fashions that would be becoming--such as would be worthy the patronage of sensible, refined and intelligent women." Brigham Young What facilitates the work is my husband's encouragement, friends and family who are convinced I know what I am doing and authors who are mentoring me.

After the sketch the next step in creation is making the pattern. I really like pattern work. It is like a puzzle, you try and dissect the design into its parts and create in flat paper what will hopefully translate well to 3 dimensional. My next step will be to translate the customer's measurements into the pattern and then a muslin or mock up of the finished product.
I am making a new #women'sjacket called Eponine inspired by a jacket I saw in Florence, Italy this past summer. There is very little remaining similarities between the two jackets, but that is the fun of creation. First I sketch and think. It is obvious that I am not an illustrator, but my sketching helps me think through the design and then later gives me a reference point |
