I have special powers. Yes, I am a pretty good designer and pattern maker and a decent seamstress, but those are not my special powers. I have figured out how to sew magic into clothes so that when you put them on you feel how beautiful you are. You might be shy about expressing it, but you will feel it. I don't know why I have this unique power, but I believe it has been given to me to help contradict the nonsense that we have been taught about our bodies and our appearance. about how we should feel about our bodies and our appearance. Nonsense that defines beauty in very narrow parameters. This nonsense has put us at war with our selves. We are conflicted even about our right to feel beautiful - isn't that vain? we ask ourselves. Look around at the intentional beauty in God's creations - could He have intended less for you? I don't think so, and I am willing to believe that all of His daughters have beauty. Sometimes we need help believing that we are lovely, that's where my special powers can help. I am here for you, willing to do my part in helping you to be your gorgeous self.

My older brother is convinced that I am a master western shirt maker. Over the past 5 years I have made him 3 or 4 shirts complete with piping and snaps. This particular shirt was so intimidating that it took me about 8 months to get it completed. I was paralyzed by the threat of making smiley pockets that were the same size, placed at the same level and with the right curve. No matter how I fudge and blunder through the making, no matter if the collar is limp and the button placket wavy, my brother remains steadfast in his delusion of me as a world class shirt maker. It is because of this persistent optimism that I agreed recently to make more shirts. I guess he wants more than one every other year. A month or so ago my brother began negotiating with me to make him not just another shirt, but to make him shirts. I agreed, after all I have a business of doing custom sewing for people, I ought to be able to make him a few shirts. I When I saw him at Thanksgiving I measured him again, as he had lost a lot of weight in the last year and we looked at fabric. My brother’s preference for his western shirts is simple; it can be any color as long as it is blue, and any pattern as long as it is solid. Which may be the real reason he comes to me for help – it is rare that I see any western shirt online or off that is not plaid and the solid colors are rarely blue. For now I am going to test out the new measurements in a navy cotton poly blend with no piping - just an every day shirt. As you can see I am using a commercial pattern for his shirt - I design women's clothing not guys. Eponine, my latest #womensjacket is finished! She was picked up this afternoon by her new owner, who by the way looks great wearing Eponine. Happy designer, and more importantly - happy customer. Overall, Eponine’s lines are simple and elegant. Interest is created by the unique shawl collar and lapel combo, as well as the horizontal tucks that finish the sleeves and jacket. Epoinine is made with gunmetal (grayed navy) fused leather fabric which is buttery soft and is a pleasure to touch Fused leather is leather fragments that are broken down and then fused to a rayon backing which makes it less expensive than a leather hide. The fused leather does not lend itself well to some tailoring techniques and so next time I may make Eponine in a woven fabric. Anyone interested? |
